Scholarship Grant

Awa Gueye, Senegal

A life-changing cardio surgical procedure and a scholarsip grant to the Senegealese student

In 2012, sixteen-year-old Senegalese Awa Gueye underwent a life-changing cardio surgical procedure to correct a rheumatic mitral insufficiency.

This humanitarian mission was organised by the Cuomo Foundation and La Chaîne de l’Espoir. The operation was successfully carried out in Dakar and Awa was able to return to her studies and is now a healthy young woman.

In 2017, the foundation awarded her a student scholarship enabling her to study Applied Biology and Chemical Engineering in Dakar. At the end of her current academic year and on completion of her Higher Technician’s certificate, she will have the opportunity to pursue further engineering studies.

I could never thank the Cuomo Foundation enough for saving me from the horrors of my heart disease and, through its support, allowing me to fulfill a wish that was dear to me: being able to carry out my educational project.
