At the height of the health crisis last year, Senegalese contemporary artist Aziz N’Diaye created a work to honour the staff of Dakar’s Cuomo Cardio-Paediatric Centre. The CCPC, as was previously reported on our website, was highly instrumental in West Africa’s fight against the pandemic. Because of the CCPC’s cutting-edge medical infrastructure and highly qualified staff, the Dakar centre was the only facility in the country capable of handling the most severe cases when the epidemic broke out.
Aziz N’Diaye painting was his artistic tribute to thank and honour all of the backstage and centre stage healthcare workforce who daily fought in the frontline against Covid-19. Mrs Maria Elena Cuomo’s visit to Dakar at the end of April provided an opportunity to organize the delivery of this painting to its new owners-the CCPC.
On the 28th of April, 2021 , a solemn but moving reception was held at the CCPC with the participation and attendance of members of the Cuomo Foundation, CCPC staff and the artist and his family. He lives and works in the city of Thies, 70 kms outside of Dakar. On the 28th of April, 2021, a solemn but moving reception was held at the CCPC with the participation and attendance of members of the Cuomo Foundation, CCPC staff and the artist and his family.
‘ I would like to express my most devoted feelings of gratitude for your commitment toward the well-being of patients, pushing the limits of the impossible. Thank you infinitely for all the good things you have produced. You are good citizens. ‘
– Aziz N’Diaye
