Emma Guericcio (Italy) performing Chopin’s Grande valse brillante op. 18 n.1
The 29th “Roma” International Piano Competition, organised by the Associazione Culturale “Fryderyk Chopin” di Roma and supported by the Cuomo Foundation, was held from November 29th to December 9th, 2019. The contest that saw the participation of some 108 young pianists representing 20 countries culminated with its signature Concerto dei Vincitori, held the closing night. The gala event was organised at the Teatro Palladium, Roma Tre University’s renowned auditorium.
This year’s Grand Chopin Prize went to the young Ukrainian pianist Galyna Gusachenko whereas Yeontaek Oh and Do Young Kim, both from South Korea, bagged second and third places. One of the highlights of the evening was the performance by Emma Guericcio, this season’s triumphant “Emerging Pianist”. The 11-year-old Italian took the Teatro Palladium by surprise with a delicate interpretation of Fryderyk Chopin’s “Grande valse brillante op. 18 n°1 ».
For the first time, this year’s competition was benefitted from the “Roma Tre Orchestra”, one of the first university orchestras in Italy. This is the result of a new collaboration that the competition has established with the Roma Tre University which recognizes the competition’s pre-eminence in the Roman cultural landscape.
