Despite being closed since the end of March due to the national lockdown imposed by the Indian government in its fight against the COVID -19 pandemic; the vegetation, flora and fauna on the grounds of the Amala Annai Higher Secondary School are blooming.

The Platinum IGBC award winning school opened last year to great fanfare and is the first environmentally friendly school built specifically for disadvantaged students in rural areas in Tamil Nadu, India. Although the classrooms remain empty the buildings and surrounding school greenery are being hygienically serviced regularly by a dedicated self-distancing maintenance team in preparation for return of students in August.
