The August 1 cover of the international news magazine, The Economist, headlined the rise of the private sector in the field of education in developing countries and stated “Private schools are booming in poor countries. Governments should either help them or get out of their way”.

The Cuomo Foundation has been active in access to education in India since 2001. It continues to support 6 private schools in the state of Tamil Nadu. These schools offer a fundamental education for over 6,000 students between 3 – 18 yrs. Furthermore, 2 scholarship programs have been established to encourage gifted pupils, especially female, to pursue college and university courses.

The article reveals how the government sector has been inefficient in educating the young generations of their respective countries and applauds the effort of the private schools that offer a far better standard of education for totally affordable fees.

The Cuomo Foundation is committed to support and uphold access to education for the most disadvantaged through quality schools in India.
