Mrs Awa Marie Coll SECK, the Senegalese Minister of Health, officiated at the formal ceremony. The Cuomo Foundation which financed the construction and the equipment of the medical facility was represented by their President, Mrs Maria Elena Cuomo and Mr Francisco A. Diaz Lison, the CEO. Prof. Alain Deloche, founding president of La Chaîne de l’Espoir, Dr Cheikh Tacko Diop, Director of CHNU Fann, Prof. Ibrahim Bara Diop, cardio-pédiatrique surgeon of CHNU and Mr Youssou N’Dour, advisor to the president of the republic of Senegal were also present at the ceremony.
The operating and surgical procedure units are due to complete construction and be equipped to open in early 2017. Once fully operational, the centre will conduct over 500 cardio surgeries and attend over 16,500 medical appointments a year.
