World Children’s Day was first established in 1954 as Universal Children’s Day and is celebrated on 20 November each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children’s welfare. November 20th is an important date as it is the date in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. It is also the date in 1989 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Today, the Cuomo Foundation honours this special day by a donation to the Department of National Education, Youth and Sport, Monaco.

This donation will support the funding of higher education for students of the Principality and or its neighbouring municipalities whose academic studies have been severely disrupted due to the economic and social impacts of the Covid crisis.

This donation continues the Cuomo Foundation’s funding initiatives in response to this year’s global health crisis. These actions aim to relieve some of the suffering of people made particularly vulnerable by the devastating social and economic effects of the pandemic (Monaco, India, Burkina Faso and Senegal) and by the recent natural disasters in France.
