An outreach program on the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was launched at the Alfredo Cuomo Higher Sec. School, Sendivakkam, amid the International Women’s Day celebrations.

A series of outreach programs were thus conducted within the school compound, built and supported by the Cuomo Foundation, to raise awareness among children on various current issues concerning the youth, especially the female.

Personnel from the Tamil Nadu Government Health Department visited the school for a special awareness session on Covid -19 and the precautionary measures to adopt in order to avoid the contamination.

The inauguration of a ‘Self-defense Club’ was also among the features, where a Shaolin Master tought methods of self-defense to female pupils over two days. A certificate was issued to the participants upon the successful completion of the training.

Finally, demonstration classes cobering the areas of Robotics, Spoken English and Mathematics are also scheduled as an introduction to the ‘Smart Classes’ planned for the next academic year. These practical classes will largely benefit the pupils from this remote area who seldom get the opportunity to have access to up-to-date knowledge and skills.
